Meet The Staff
Born June 27th ,1968, Pastor Nicky has always lived here in Caldwell County. He graduated from West Caldwell High School in 1986, at the age of 17 as a senior in High School he trusted Jesus as Lord and Savior of his life. His desire for the Lord and the work of the Lord grew to become his lifestyle. In 1988 at the age of 19 he surrendered his life to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ. He preached on the streets of his hometown and across the country, also filling the pulpits of Churches at the invitation of Pastors. He graduated West Lenoir School of Ministry in 1991 with a Bachelor of Divinity in Christian Education. He also married the love of his life, Traci Rhodes Waters, on June 8th 1991. They have been married for 25 years. He pastored the Green Valley Baptist Church for 3 years before becoming the Pastor here at Poovey’s Chapel in June 1996. In September 1999, Nicky and Traci were blessed with a son, Isaac. He also earned a Master’s Degree in Christian Education in 2000. He has led our Church to grow reaching our community and through missions around the world. He has worked with and continues to help with various ministries such as Tent Meetings, Crusades, etc. He has led mission trips to Peru and other mission projects here in the States. Pastor Nicky is involved in our community as a Chaplain and Chairman of the Board of Directors with the Hudson Fire Department. He and Traci were blessed with their next son, Adrik, in October, 2015. Pastor Nicky enjoys vacations with his family, fishing, riding 4 wheelers, running, farming and various outdoor hobbies. He is leading us to a closer relationship with Jesus and reaching out to those who do not know Jesus.
Pastor Mark was born January 18, 1965. He has always lived in Caldwell County. He graduated from South Caldwell High School in 1983. He received Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord in the break room of a Winn Dixie in 1984. Mark married Jennifer Hoyle Dula in 1988. On February 9th, 1997, he surrendered to the call to preach. He began his Christian education at West Lenoir School of Ministry in 1998. He graduated with a Bachelors degree in Divinity in 2001 and continued his education and in 2003, received a Master of Divinity Degree. Mark served as associate/youth pastor at Poovey’s Chapel Baptist Church from 1999 until 2003. He then pastored Harris Chapel Baptist Church from 2003 until 2006, and Rocky Face Baptist Church from 2006 until 2016. In August of 2016, the Lord led him back to Poovey’s Chapel as Associate/Youth pastor. Mark is thrilled to be able to work with Pastor Nicky and the youth. Mark has a great desire to see other’s come to faith in Jesus Christ and grow in the grace and knowledge of their Lord and Savior. Mark and His wife have one son and two daughters and one granddaughter. He loves going to the beach with his family, snow skiing, and just having a great time with family and friends.

Bro. Bud Jearnigan
Our Director of Senior Adult Ministries is known as "Bro. Bud". He was born December 20,1951 as James Wallace Jernigan, Jr. in Waycross, Georgia. Bro. Bud moved with his family to Hamlet,NC in January of his senior year of high school, 1970. It was in Hamlet that he met the love of his life, Jean Marie Hogan. They were married December 17,1972. They have been married for 47 years with two grown children, sweet Sophia (7) and 7 grandchildren.It was in Hamlet, that Bro Bud felt a strong call into the Gospel Ministry. He was licensed by Second Baptist church in 1972. Bro. Bud has served 9 churches in 4 states. His experience in ministry certain will help him in his ministry here at Poovey's Chapel. He has served as Pastor, Associate Pastor, Youth Director, Choir director, and led mission trips. After retiring as full time pastor, he serves our congregation focusing on our Seniors. He is a preacher, teacher, soul winner, and minister. His hobbies include fishing, hunting, gardening, and music
